This beginner-level, virtual training provides an introduction to the use of SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) principles when working with the parents of a child struggling with school refusal. Led by Amy Killy, LCSW, a Certified SPACE therapist, you learn how to effectively address school refusal using SPACE. School refusal typically stems from anxiety related to academic performance, social challenges, or emotional difficulties, creating a self-perpetuating cycle that can severely impact educational outcomes. This training equips psychotherapists and other mental health professionals with practical SPACE strategies to help parents maintain a non-anxious presence, support their anxious children, and move beyond confrontational approaches. Participants learn how to guide families toward reengaging students with school while creating a more peaceful household. No prior knowledge or training in SPACE is required to benefit from this training.
