Culturally Responsive Assessment Homestudy -- Student/Non-CE - 2 HOURS

About this course

This training features guidelines on how to assess client cultural strengths and values to enhance the cultural sensitivity of CBT interventions. Also, this training offers recommendations on how clinicians can assess whether culturally stressful experiences are interfering with the effectiveness of their recommended CBT interventions.

Learning Objectives

  • Utilize strategies for creatively and flexibly assessing client strengths and values in a culturally-sensitive manner
  • Identify structured assessments of cultural stress that can be incorporated into intake/screening procedures to inform when it is important to further explore the impact of such stress
  • Utilize strategies for creatively and flexibly assessing past, present, or anticipated experiences of cultural stress
  • Learn to evaluate their client’s ability to heal from and navigate the culturally stressful experiences they face

Mental Health Professionals, including social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and any other therapist. Educators, school counselors, teachers, and school administrators. Therapists in training, including master’s level and doctoral level students

Course Instructor(s)

  • Ryan DeLapp, Ph.D.

    Dr. DeLapp is a clinical psychologist at The Ross Center and the founder and creator of the REACH program: Racial, Ethnic and Cultural Healing. He treats anxiety, depression, and cultural stress in children, adolescents, and young adults. He was formerly an assistant professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and he directed the REACH program at Montefiore’s Child/Adolescent Psychiatric Outpatient Division. He has several publications and presentations discussing considerations for assessing and treating racial stress in diverse populations, and is publishing a workbook shortly entitled The Racial, Ethnic, And Cultural Healing (REACH) Workbook: Skills to Empower Teens and Young Adults to Heal, Cope, and Thrive.
