Modern Obesity Treatments in Behavioral Health Care: Mechanisms, Monitoring & Clinical Considerations HOMESTUDY - STUDENT/NON-CE - 1.5 HOURS

About this course

This introductory presentation explored the complex and often underrecognized relationship between obesity and mental health, highlighting how conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia both contributed to and were impacted by obesity.

We reviewed the metabolic effects of commonly used psychotropic medications and provided practical strategies to minimize weight gain through thoughtful medication selection and interdisciplinary care.

The session also emphasized evidence-based lifestyle and behavioral approaches, grounded in the biological and psychological realities patients face. In addition, participants were presented with an overview of modern obesity treatments, including pharmacotherapy, with a focus on mechanisms, side effects, and considerations specific to behavioral health practice. Clinicians left with immediately applicable tools to support obese patients more effectively.
