This introductory webinar provided a practical, evidence-based overview of obesity as a chronic, relapsing disease that affected over 42% of U.S. adults. Despite its high prevalence, formal medical education on obesity pathophysiology and treatment remained limited, contributing to persistent bias, stigma, and gaps in care. This session equipped clinicians with a deeper understanding of the biological, genetic, and environmental drivers of obesity, reframing it beyond personal responsibility. Homestudy was available if this time was not convenient.
Participants explored the physiologic responses to weight loss, including hormonal adaptations that increased hunger and reduced satiety, as well as muscular and psychological factors that contributed to weight regain. The training emphasized how these biologic realities impacted long-term weight management and patient experience. Designed for clinicians across specialties, this session translated science into practice by improving understanding of obesity biology, with the goal of reducing weight bias, enhancing patient-centered communication, and ultimately improving clinical outcomes.
