Preparing for Racial Talks: Strategies for Strengthening a Culturally Responsive Mindset Homestudy -- Student/Non-CE participant - 2 HOURS

About this course

This training engages attendees in self-reflection regarding their own identities and how these identities intersect with those held by clients of color. The training intends to prompt attendees to explore any stereotypes, biases, or possibly unintended microaggressions that occur during discussions of cultural stress. Finally, the training reviews tips on how clinicians can cultivate a culturally responsive mindset that would enhance their ability to offer culturally affirming and humble care.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe how their own identities can influence their clinical practice when working with clients of color
  • Explore personal biases that undermine a sense of safety and security for clients of color within therapeutic interactions
  • Identify personal actions attendees can take (both in and outside of therapy room) to help clients of color feel safe to bring their whole selves to therapy

Target Audience

Mental Health Professionals, including social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and any other therapist. Educators, school counselors, teachers, and school administrators. Therapists in training, including master’s level and doctoral level students
