About this event

Sleep in Children & Adolescents: Disorder versus Development

Sleep patterns change significantly across childhood and adolescence, making it important for healthcare providers to distinguish typical developmental changes from clinically significant sleep disorders. This intermediate two-part webinar outlines the prevalence of primary pediatric sleep disorders, how and when to treat and when to refer. Participants gain enhanced knowledge of the assessment and treatment of sleep disorders in children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Objectives:

SESSION 1 - 9/18/26 10:00 am – 11:30 am ET

  • Participant will list screening questions to ask children and adolescents to determine if sleep quantity or quality indicates a sleep disorder.
  • Participant will describe primary pediatric disorders and determine if the pediatric and adolescent complaint of restless sleep is related to Restless Sleep Disorder, sleep apnea, or both.
  • Participant will explain first-line treatments for common pediatric sleep-disordered presentations and when to refer.

   SESSION 2 - 9/25/26 10:00 am – 11:30 am ET

  • Participant will analyze primary pediatric disorders and determine whether pediatric insomnia is behavioral or potentially pathologic, identify standards of treatment, and determine when to refer for testing.
  • Participant will identify primary pediatric disorders and determine whether excessive daytime sleepiness in children and adolescents is due to insufficient sleep or a central hypersomnia.
